Rupel Jones Theatre

Weitzenhoffer School of Fine Arts – Rupel Jones Theatre

The University of Oklahoma, College of Fine Arts, has recently undergone a complete renovation of the Elsie C. Brackett Theatre, formerly the Rupel J. Jones Theatre. The College of Fine arts Musical Theater department elected to showcase the opening of the theater with the very technically demanding show: Ragtime.

The team here at BOLD was responsible for installing the sound, video and communications systems for the renovated facility. This allowed the production crew to pull off four flawless performances of Ragtime with ease. A pair of L’Acoustics KIVA line arrays and SB15 subwoofers with ARCS center cluster powered by L’Acoustics LA4X loudspeaker amplifier and network controller evenly fills the room with gorgeous sound while the Yamaha CL5 digital audio console manages the mixing of the orchestra and performers microphones.

For this opening show the production crew maxed out 64 input channels on two Yamaha Rio3224-D digital snake systems delivered via a Dante audio network through two Cisco managed network switches. The redundancy in this system ensures that all channels will be routed to the audio console with never a worry of audio dropouts. The theater has five locations around the stage and orchestra pit for the production crew to roll in a Yamaha Rio3224-D digital snake, giving them access all the inputs and outputs wherever they are needed. The performers can monitor their sound on stage with the four L’Acoustics 12XTi coaxial loudspeakers or back stage in 6 zones of distributed audio that utilizes a DBX Zone Pro 1260 and JBL Control 25T speakers. The Clearcom MS-704 gives the production crew four channels of crystal clear bi-directional audio in 12 locations throughout the theater to manage all the technical cues, stage crew, and cast. The Vaddio PTZ cameras send video of the orchestra director and center stage to the LED flat panels mounted on the walls backstage ensuring the performers never miss an entrance. It was a great honor to design and complete this project for the University of Oklahoma, College of Fine Arts. We look forward to many successful shows to come!

Reynolds Performing Arts Center

University of Oklahoma – Reynolds Performing Arts Center

The BOLD AV was tasked to help out the University of Oklahoma College of Fine Arts. The Reynolds Performing Arts Center was in desperate need of an update from analog to digital sound and we provided the perfect solution. In order to optimize the performance space with an increase of inputs and lower costs we installed a Soundcraft Si Performer 3 and digital-snake Compact Stage Box. The new setup provides the OU Reynolds PAC with a 64 channels to mix with dedicated processing on each channel, allowing them to remove their aging analog outboard gear.

For any tech people out there, you know a move from analog to digital can be a huge jump when running a sound console. We spent two hours with the crew from Reynolds Performing Arts training them in how to rethink producing a live performance utilizing the power and features of the Si Performer 3, covering everything from configuration to sound check. In addition to their new board, we brought our demo board so everyone on the team could get hands on training with this cool new technology.
